Saville Consulting Wins Trade Mark Case with SHL Group

April 15 2008

Press Release

Professor Peter Saville, the original founder of SHL Group gets his name back and succeeds in an important case to have all SHL Group trade mark registrations containing his name revoked. Saville Consulting is now free to revitalise the market with a range of leading edge innovative solutions based on latest research.

LONDON, April 15th, 2008: The UK Intellectual Property Office has sided with Professor Peter Saville and Saville Consulting in its battle with SHL Group Limited over its use of the Saville name and has revoked all of SHL's registrations containing the name Saville. As a result, SHL Group can no longer use these trade mark rights to limit Saville Consulting's innovative product development and rapid market growth.

The action was in response to SHL's opposition to an application by Saville Consulting to register SAVILLE at the European Community Trade Mark Office.

The ruling will be a setback to SHL Group who strenuously defended the action but failed to prove that it had made genuine use of the trade mark and was ordered to pay Saville Consulting's costs.

Peter Saville says he is saddened by the need to fight for the right to his own name and adds “With this restriction to the use of my name out of the way, we can draw on our wide experience and continue to focus on revolutionising and capturing the talent management market.”

Under the direction of Peter Saville, SHL Group became a global powerhouse in the field of industrial psychology and executive assessment in the 1980s. Backed by extensive research under Peter's guidance, the company brought psychometric tests into the organisational world. The company's solutions were acknowledged globally as the greatest innovation in workplace psychology at the time.

Saville Consulting has invested substantially over the past four years to bring the same ground breaking approach to today's talent market. The company has developed revolutionary industrial psychology and executive assessment tools that are designed specifically for current client needs. As a result Saville Consulting Wave® is rapidly becoming the definitive candidate and employee assessment tool worldwide.
